Waste segregation

The detailed method of segregation is specified:
Regulation of the Minister of the Environment of 29 December 2016 on the detailed method of selective collection of selected waste fractions (Journal of Laws 2017, item 19).

The main principle of the Single Waste Segregation System (JSSO) - separate raw materials from non-recyclable waste. Collecting paper, glass, plastics along with metal separately, as well as separating biodegradable waste, produces the most fully recyclable raw materials.

When separating waste, it is important not to forget about hazardous waste, which includes used batteries and accumulators, out-of-date medicines, used fluorescent lamps, waste from chemicals (e.g. pesticides), as well as used electrical and electronic equipment (so-called electrical waste). This waste must not be disposed of as mixed waste. They can be disposed of at specially designated points in shops and pharmacies, as well as at the selective municipal waste collection point, the so-called PSZOK (Selective Municipal Waste Collection Point), organised by the municipality.

Main principles of waste separation

Currently there is a division into five factions:

1.metals and plastics, yellow in colour, marked: "metals and plastics";

2. paper, blue, marked 'paper';

3. Glass, green, marked 'glass';

4. biodegradable waste, brown in colour, 'bio' designation;

5. mixed waste, black in colour, labelled 'mixed'.
